Wagner Crowned Top Accordionist in State

Spencer Wagner, a senior at Cheyenne Mountain High School, captured top honors in the 54th Annual Rocky Mountain Accordion Society Contest held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Denver August 8-10, 2003. Spencer performed "Slavic Rhapsody" for a 1st place finish in the Open Solo event which is open to all ages and considered the most demanding event of the weekend. Spencer also placed 1st in Virtuoso Royalty and the Senior Virtuoso events.

Spencer has been studying the accordion since age 7 with Dan and Kim Christian of the Young Musicians of America studio in Colorado Springs. He enjoys all types of music, but his favorites to perform on the accordion include jazz and classical. He is currently recording his first album, "The Classic Accordion," which will be released in 2004. Spencer also performed a collection of patriotic songs for the Broadmoor Hotel this summer during their 4th of July Celebration weekend.
