Spencer Wagner Qualifies for
Men's National U20 Field Hockey Team
Colorado
Springs, CO. Cheyenne Mountain Senior, Spencer Wagner, was named this
week to the Men's National Under-20 (U20) Field Hockey Team after attending
the Open Trials at Moorpark College in California January 16-19. The trials
included a full day of physical/skill testing and two days of competition
against the current Men's US National Team.
Nineteen players from across the country were named to the team. The team will represent the United States in international U20 competition this year including tournaments in Chile, Canada, California and Virginia. Spencer first began playing field hockey at age 6 with the Colorado Springs Early Bird Field Hockey program and continued his interest in the sport by playing with the adult club teams in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Colorado College, and the National U16 Men's team. He also served as manager for the CMHS Girl's Field Hockey Team for three years. Spencer has been involved in the CMHS weight lifting program for the past three years and attributes part of his success at the recent U.S. Trials to the excellent conditioning program directed by Coach Dick Summers.
Spencer would like to continue playing with the Men's National Field Hockey program through 2008 with hopes of making the Men's National Team for the 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio and the 2008 Olympics in China. Spencer will attend the University of Denver in the Fall as an Alumni Scholar and plans to major in both Math and Music.
