IN THIS ARN-ANNOUNCE:
A FEW NOTES ABOUT ARN-ANNOUNCE
This is the tenth issue of ARN-Announce. It describes many of the upcoming events and new articles, books, videos and other resources on Intelligent Design. Please forward this message to several of your friends and colleagues to let them know about the resources available at Access Research Network (www.arn.org). Back issues of ARN-Announce can be found at www.arn.org/announce.htm
ARN ROLLS OUT ASTRONOMY AND COSMOLOGY PRODUCT LINE
Products on sale at Amazon Buster prices with free shipping for arnproducts over $75Browsing our catalog prior to today you might have perceived that the Intelligent Design movement was something happening only in the field of biology. Although there are many exciting developments in biology, many other fields such as paleontology, mathematics, physics, philosophy, theology and astronomy are weighing in with their own impressive arguments.
We will be adding noteworthy resources from all these fields to our catalog and database of online articles, and we start today by rolling out our astronomy and cosmology product line. We have spent the past few months reviewing many products to select a handful that best represent the wonders of the universe and the cosmological argument from design. We must tell you up front that not all of the authors selected are friends of ID. But most are at least ID friendly. What I mean by this is that they are not sold out to atheistic science, like Carl Sagan or Richard Dawkins. Instead most show openness to a teleological approach to science, where theistic perspectives provide a meaningful framework for trying to understand the data.
We are giving you two irresistible reasons to add these valuable resources to your library this week or to purchase them as Christmas gifts for friends or family: First we have priced every one of our new items at Amazon Buster prices below the best price offered by Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com, between now and the end of the year. Second, we are offering FREE SHIPPING for all arnproducts over $75 received before close of business on December 20th (the last day we can take your order and get it to you by Christmas if you live in the U.S.—foreign arnproducts may take a little longer). You won’t find a better deal than this on these products, so pull out your credit card and order away.
Due to the large number of products, I will only give a brief word about each one. Please click on the web URL for full product information. I have listed the products below, starting from entry level and moving toward the more advanced readings near the end.
Creation of the Cosmos: Scientific Evidence for Intelligent Design
Video Lecture featuring Dr. Walter Bradley
Dr. Bradley is one of the leaders in the Intelligent Design movement having co-authored The Mystery of Life’s Origin in 1984. In this public lecture, he reviews the key data that indicates the universe has been "fine tuned" for life. His discussion of some of the physical constants of the universe may wander over the heads of some, but overall this product is recommended for a general audience. Includes interesting Q&A session with students. Filmed at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Video Lecture featuring Dr. Henry F. Schaefer III
Henry Schaefer is a prolific scholar with over 750 scientific publications to his credit. In this lecture, presented at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Schaefer confronts the assertion that one cannot believe in God and be a credible scientist. He starts by showing that the theistic worldview of Bacon, Kepler, Pascal, Boyle, Newton, Faraday and Maxwell was instrumental in the rise of modern science. He goes on to name many modern scientists and Nobel prize winners, including Charles Coulson, John Suppe, Charles Townes, Arther Schawlow, Alan Sandage, Donald Page, R. David Cole and Francis Collins, whose religious faith is an integral part of who they are as scientists. The video concludes with an exclusive interview with Dr. Schaefer where he discusses why a Christian worldview is more compatible with the findings of modern cosmology than a purely naturalistic and materialistic worldview. Suitable for all ages.

by Ken Croswell
The most complete, authoritative, and lavish celebration of the heavens ever created. No other book approaches its range of photographs, produced with uncompromising quality on a majestic scale. With more than one hundred full-color portraits, Magnificent Universe allows you to experience for yourself the beauty of the planets, moons, comets, constellations, stellar nurseries, red giants, supernovae, spiral galaxies, and quasars--all the way to the edge of space and time.

2nd Edition
There are dozens of books available featuring the Hubble images. For the best pure visual impact I recommend Magnificent Universe above. But for the best combination of images and explanatory text, Hubble Vision is my choice. The book was an instant hit when it was first released in 1995. In the second edition, released in 1998, the authors have included many of the more recent images.

If you are looking for a book to help get you jump-started in the field of astronomy and cosmology, this is it. Astronomer and award-winning educator Jeffrey Bennett has edited and contributed to several textbooks on the topic. But his goal with this book was to create a fascination with the human adventure of astronomical discovery for those with little or no background in the field. And he does so in David Letterman style by focusing on his top ten list of mysteries that astronomers will be attempting to solve in the 3rd Millennium.
To order go to http://www.arn.org/arnproducts/coverimages/b040.htmGod and the Astronomer by Robert Jastrow
(expanded 2000 edition)
Robert Jastrow, a world-renowned astrophysicist and agnostic, takes an honest and inquisitive look at the theological implications of recent astronomical discoveries. Every effect in science has a cause, so what caused the Big Bang and the birth of the universe?

by John Leslie
Why does our universe exist? In order to answer that most fundamental of questions, John Leslie examines the philosophical as well as the scientific arguments for "fine tuning"; that is, the theory that the cosmos is specifically suited to produce life. The result is one of the most powerful versions of the "argument from design" in this century.

John Leslie, editor
Edited with an introduction by noted scholar John Leslie, this volume offers superb selections on modern cosmology, relativistic theories of the universe, the Big Bang, the problem of God and creation, cosmology and verifiability, coincidences, origins and evolution, multiple universe theories, infinity, chaos, life forms, the end of time, and the limits of our knowledge. A great companion to be read with John Leslie’s Universes above.

William Lane Craig and Quentin Smith
If you raced through Bennett’s On the Cosmic Horizon and Jastrow’s God and the Astronomers, and you find yourself thirsting for deep philosophical and scientific details on the Big Bang, then you can drink to your hearts content from Theism, Atheism and Big Bang Cosmology by William Lane Craig and Quentin Smith. Quentin is not ready to concede the Big Bang to the theists and so these two philosophers duke it out for bragging rights to the origin of the universe in a debate format. As you can expect from a Oxford University Press book, this is not light reading, but those who persevere will be rewarded with the best debate available in print on the topic.
To order go to http://www.arn.org/arnproducts/php/book_show_item.php?id=42Order these great resources now while the prices are the lowest on the internet and shipping is free for arnproducts over $75. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did while putting together this great ARN collection on the cosmological argument from design.
But I don’t want to leave out those of you whose credit cards are already maxed out from holiday spending. You can find plenty of free discussion on the cosmological argument from Dr. Robert Koons, our newest featured author at: http://www.arn.org/koons/rkhome.htm
And those of you dying to see some of the beautiful space images in the books and posters mentioned above can take a 3D tour of the Solar System at the National Geographic web site and check out the Astronomy Picture of the Day web site. To find these sites go to the ARN related web site page at: http://www.arn.org/sites.htm
Enjoy! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the ARN staff.
