Sponsored by the University of San Francisco Jesuit Foundation and the Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Center
September 27-28, 2002 at the USF McLaren Complex at USF, San Francisco, CA
San Francisco, California: The University of San Francisco (USF) and the Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Center are hosting a conference on the creation-evolution issue entitled the "Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness Conference." The conference was made possible by the help of Dr. Stephen Huxley, professor at USF, and a grant from the University of San Francisco Jesuit Foundation.
The conference is open to the public and will last from 6 pm - 9 pm on Friday September 27th, and from 9 am - 7 pm on Saturday September 28th. It will take place on the USF campus at the USF McLaren Center, which is located at 2345 Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco, California. Early admission for students and youth pastors is $10 ($20 after Sept. 16th), for USF faculty / staff is $15 ($25 after Sept. 16th), and for all others is $20 ($35 after Sept. 16th). For more information, please call (858) 337-3529, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.ideacenter.org/usf2002/.
The conference will bring the science behind intelligent design theory to college students and others in the Bay Area. Trained experts will present information on the scientific fundamentals of the origin of life and universe and present scientific evidence for intelligent design theory. Intelligent design is a scientific theory postulating that life was designed by an intelligence, rather than having evolved naturally. Speakers include Michael Behe (Ph.D., research biochemist at Lehigh University), Paul Nelson (Ph.D., biologist), Paul Chien (Ph.D., USF biology faculty), Edward Peltzer (Ph.D., research chemist at Monterrey Bay Aquarium), George Hunter (Ph.D. biophysics), and Jay Wesley Richards (Ph.D. Theology). The conference will also provide a framework for understanding these issues by explaining how intelligent design theory supports the Judeo-Christian worldview.
The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Center is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promoting intelligent design theory and fostering
good - spirited discussion and a better understanding over the creation - evolution
issue among students, educators, churches, and any others interested in creation
and evolution. The Center fulfills its mission by hosting conferences, classes,
and by helping establish student-run "IDEA Clubs" on college and high
school campuses across the country. More information about the IDEA Center can
